Always a Threat…

As much as I hate hearing their racist words and ignorance, it is Drumpf’s “quiet supporters” who scare the hell out of me…Once a racist and/or racist supporter, always a threat

I had a nice day in Philadelphia attending the NCTM (Math) Regional Conference with a colleague. I don’t go to conferences often, especially in another state. So when this opportunity came up, I was excited to learn something new in another state. After a long rewarding day,  I was almost back to home,  waiting at the traffic circle when a red Jeep Wrangler came flying by. I usually pay attention because Jeep drivers usually wave to each other (don’t ask, it’s a Jeep thing). Except…

…this driver had a giant “Hillary for Prison” flag on one side an a “Trump for President” flag on the other. When I say giant, I mean massive. Both were equally blowing in the breeze. Only one flag represented a racist, misogynist, sexist, narcissistic male fool. It definitely killed my conference buzz for the moment. It wasn’t just a sign on a lawn. It was the hatred I have seen in videos of his rallies flying right in my face.

This was not far from my home, not far from where I work, and could have been person related to someone I know or deal with on a daily basis. To use my colleague’s words, “This election scares me.” It has scared me that so many intelligent people (college-educated) choose to excuse his vile behavior. These same intelligent people choose to ignore U.S. history and Hitler’s rise to power (the comparisons have been there since Day 1) to support this fool.

The acceptance of Drumpf by the media, by some people I know, including current and former co-workers, parents, I could go on, has tested my faith in people. It has opened my eyes about how people really feel, even those who try to “keep it quiet.” People can talk about the supporters at the rallies. As much as I hate hearing their racist words and ignorance, it is Drumpf’s “quiet supporters” who scare the hell out of me.

There are only two thoughts in my mind when I think about his quiet supporters: (1) That they are racist and/or (2) That thry are ok with people who are racist. That is a threat to me and everyone who does not fit their candidate’s view of “A Great America.”

My hope is that sanity prevails, and he doesn’t win. I wil continue to have faith in that outcome. One thing is clear: my opinion of his supporters, near and far, will still be the same after the election. Once a racist and/or racist supporter, always a threat.

I am definitely ready…

I am ready for football season to start. I need something to distract me from this frustrating, idiotic Presidential election. How can it be in 2016 in the United States that we have an openly racist candidate? How can he even be considered as a possible leader of our country? That doesn’t make sense to me. Football makes sense. Thank you NFL!

Trying so hard…

Trying so hard to stay motivated. It’s so difficult when I have time laying in front of me like an open road. That is the hardest part about my summer schedule: so much open time. I am thankful and blessed for the time. Hiwever, I just keep feeling disappointed that I haven’t used it well. Since I was diagnosed with ADD, it has been a gift (as a teacher) and a struggle (personally)

I don’t have time…

I don’t have time for subtle northern racism. I know I should be used to it after growing up in New Jersey. However, when it does appear, it’s as annoying as that nasty mosquito that won’t leave you alone. Now that 2016 has become the “Year of the Racist” with constant updates on television and Twitter, I don’t have time to deal with people’s issues about my Black skin
