I don’t have time for subtle northern racism. I know I should be used to it after growing up in New Jersey. However, when it does appear, it’s as annoying as that nasty mosquito that won’t leave you alone. Now that 2016 has become the “Year of the Racist” with constant updates on television and Twitter, I don’t have time to deal with people’s issues about my Black skin

Earlier this week, I met a friend for beer and pizza. I walked into the restaurant past the bar without an issue. As I entered the dining area, I was met with the steely stare of an old White man. In fact, he stared at me as if I was the Grim Reaper. I flashed my beautiful smile and said hello as I walked towards my friend. Once I sat down, I noticed out of the corner of my eye that he was staring at me. I had already decided that I wasn’t going to let this little old man ruin my beer.

I obviously ruined his evening because he left after eating his salad and talking to the manager about me (the manager had looked my way during their conversation). If he had continued to be annoying, I was going to actually pay for his meal…Then again, I probably wouldn’t.
