Why is Michelle (Jenna Russell) living in their house like their adopted another child?
Last week EastEnders Phil Mitchell* (Steve McFadden) returned to Albert Square to look after his daughter Louise (Tilley Keeper). Right now her care is his main focus. However, he’s been away for seven months, and there’s a lot he needs to address. I have many questions that I would like to see him answer, and I’m just one fan (and tweets are only 140 characters).
While Phil was in Italy, Sharon (Letitia Dean) decided to keep some important secrets, so he could recuperate “peacefully.” It’s a safe bet that Phil doesn’t know about: Louise’s bullying (towards Bex and as a victim), her rape scare, and previous hospital stay, or Dennis’s (Bleu Landau) involvement in Keegan’s (Zack Morris) lie. I know Phil is busy with Lisa (Lucy Benjamin), Louise’s mum. However, he has unfinished business he needs to handle. I have a few questions and some thoughts in mind.
Questions and Loose Ends
I have a feeling that Phil has managed to adopt their son while he was away. Maybe he wasn’t in Italy after all but in another part of London.
Sharon: Will he ask her the real reason for keeping secrets from him? Louise has been in the hospital twice. Did she need to be in a coma before Sharon contacted Phil? Why did she choose not to buy a new dress for Louise? (This will be important if she goes after Kush.) How could you let Dennis spy on Louise when she was undressed? Why is Michelle (Jenna Russell) living in their house like their adopted another child? We know Sharon hasn’t treated Louise well during his absence. I want to know if Phil will find out.
Denise: Where is our son? (I’m not going too deep into this question. I have a feeling that Phil has managed to adopt their son while he was away. Maybe he wasn’t in Italy after all but in another part of London. That would explain Sharon’s reasons for not calling.)
Keegan and Karen: This is the showdown I’m excited to see for a few reasons. I do believe there will be shouting and hopefully, minimal violence (he’s supposed to be a teenager). Karen isn’t a Lisa. She will not let anyone, including Phil, hurt her son. I expect the interaction between Karen and Phil to be explosive. As for Keegan, I wonder: Will Phil meeting Keegan cause him to think about his son and what will happen to him in the future? Phil and Denise’s son is biracial. Although the circumstances surrounding his talking to Keegan deal with the pain he caused Louise, I don’t see Phil trying to destroy him.
So…Could Sharon’s strong dislike of Keegan be due to her issues with Denise and Phil’s son?
Sharon and Keegan: It’s quite obvious that Sharon really dislikes Keegan. He lied about sleeping with Louise when she was drunk. (Dennis helped by telling Keegan about her birthmark.) He came into her house and harrassed Dennis. (After Dennis threw an egg at Keegan’s pregnant sister.) So, one would think she has a reason for the hate. However, when you add Dennis’s involvement (which he didn’t tell Sharon) and the criminal activities of the men in her life, Keegan is tame. Sharon said repeatedly that Dennis is nothing like Keegan. So…Could Sharon’s strong dislike of Keegan be due to her issues with Denise and Phil’s son?
That’s enough questions and issues to keep Phil Mitchell busy until next Easter. Hopefully we will see some of these questions answered soon.
* Like most fans I was glad to see the character return. However, I was disappointed that one of his first few scenes included him assaulting Lisa. Equally disappointing were the number of people on social media who enjoyed and/or applauded how he treated her. I don’t condone domestic violence regardless of the instigator.
