Happy New Year everyone! I hope you had a relaxing and joyous holiday! It’s been awhile since my last post. I was very busy at work the week before my winter break. So, once my vacation started, I spent most of my time relaxing and doing as little as possible.
Now that 2018 has started, I’m trying to think about my goals/resolutions for the year. Actually, I started thinking about it on December 15 at our Secret Santa Party.
One of the ladies in our girlfriend group suggested we write our goals on a piece of paper. She was going to type and share them on our group chat. This way we could support each other during the year as we worked towards our goals. (Sounds simple, right?)
A New Year to Be Thankful
Well, I had nothing to offer that night. I couldn’t come up with one goal or resolution for the new year. I promised that I would email my goals before New Year’s Day.
It’s now January 2, 2018, and I still haven’t sent that email. However, I’m glad that I didn’t. On New Year’s Eve, I had an “Aha Moment!” While I was on Twitter, I read a tweet from a woman who I follow. She was glad to see the year-end and had no desire to set goals for 2018. Instead, she focused on what she was thankful for during the past year.
Here’s my interpretation of her tweet:
Reflect on what you were thankful for last year. Hope that you can be thankful for the same things this year and a little bit more.
This was the advice and wisdom I needed! Last year was very difficult for me professionally and personally. I felt as if I was going backwards. In fact, I couldn’t wait for the year to end. So, I’m going to start 2018 by sharing what I was thankful for in 2017:
- I was thankful for my good health and having the insurance to maintain my health;
- I was thankful for my job and the professional opportunities I had last year;
- I was thankful for my friends and family, especially the group of ladies who came into my life. They’ve shown me that healthy female friendships are possible;
- Finally, I was thankful for my home, my shelter, where I could go when the news outside my door was too overwhelming.
I hope for the same in 2018.
