It’s Not About L, It’s About Mick’s PTSD (EastEnders)

Exactly and the best response Mick Carter delivered to Linda Carter. I haven’t been a fan of Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) because the character appears as stuck up and beyond demanding. Based on her upbringing and current situation, Linda needs take a few seats. Mick has just come out of prison… MICK HAS JUST COME OUT OF PRISON. That means he has an adjustment period. That also means he has post traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD). But Linda wouldn’t care about that. Her main focus is that Mick come home just like he was before he was arrested for a crime he didn’t commit.

Linda’s mindset is based on maturity. She’s been presented as the “grown-woman teenager” who is fun and spontaneous. In the real world, that means a suspension of reality. Even though some fans love the “Carter Love,” that love was based on teenagers falling in love. Linda and Mick were teenage parents. That means if they had a MTV’s Teen Moms at that time, Linda and Mick would have been on the show. They married 20 years after producing children. They stayed together for those 20 years based on family support. (Although precious and beautiful, that’s not reality. It’s a modern fairytale that has been scripted.)

Regardless of family support and the need to “stay like teenagers,” you can’t stop age and experience. Mick experienced a traumatic event. His recovery from that event is not about his marriag in jeopardy. It’s about 40+ year old Linda supporting him as he deals with his recovery. It’s not about L’s vision of their family life. It’s about Linda strapping on those big girl panties and supporting Mick through his recovery.

Now, they’ve made it about the strength of their marriage. That really isn’t due to Mick’s PTSD from prison. That would be due to Linda lying about how far she went with Stuart Highway.

In fact, the storyline would be more intriguing if EastEnders advertised Mick’s situation as post-traumatic stress instead of using storyline #100 about “Mick and Linda’s marriage being in trouble.” Then we would be compelled to see Mick’s recovery. Now, they’ve made it about the strength of their marriage. That really isn’t due to Mick’s PTSD from prison. That would be due to Linda lying about how far she went with Stuart Highway. We know they won’t be split up (because the “Powers That Be” won’t break them up for some reason). That means the Carters will continue to live with each other, lie to each other, and love each other happily.

It isn’t about “L” or about their marriage. It’s about a man trying to wrap his mind around a situation he could not control. That’s the storyline we should be seeing from the Carters.

If you want fans older than teenagers, then you will have to treat the Carters like other soap couples. There was a time we wanted fantasy, and the Carters would’ve fit perfectly. Now that we have eyes everywhere with social media, “Carter Happiness” is beyond unrealistic. Make it real! Linda Carter needs to accept that her husband needs adjustment time. She needs to give him the time, the space, and moments to listen. It isn’t about “L” or about their marriage. It’s about a man trying to wrap his mind around a situation he could not control. That’s the storyline we should be seeing from the Carters.
