I remember when I first heard that Kate Oates was leaving Coronation Street. That’s when I started to pray that Oates would come to EastEnders. I kept hearing from my fellow fans that it wouldn’t happen. That Oates was still tied to ITV. Then the announcement came…
KATE OATES WAS HIRED AS EASTENDERS EXECUTIVE PRODUCER!
I did a Happy Dance in New Jersey because I knew we finally had a show-runner who knew how to handle her business and be successful. Now EastEnders was going to get the changes it needed. My show was heating up again!
We finally had someone new, not recycled like John Yorke. Oates could bring the show into the present time and not hang back in the late 80s, early 90s. (That doesn’t mean she won’t use plot devices from back then.) It doesn’t work for a soap to stay almost 20 plus years behind. If anyone can bring EastEnders forward, Oates and Jon Sen can make that happen.
EastEnders just needs some excitement, challenge, and grit. It needs those moments that keep us fans guessing.– TLanette
Now we’re in the last week of January and getting closer to #KateOatesFebruary! I’m beyond excited! I can’t wait to see the new character groupings. In fact, it will be nice to see Oates and Sen use the majority of the characters instead of the chosen few.
I’m also hoping to see more risky storylines. (We may not get an affair in the middle of the Carter marriage, but you’ll never know.) I know it won’t be popular, but I’ll even take a serial killer hidden among the quieter Walford residents.
EastEnders just needs some excitement, challenge, and grit. It needs those moments that keep us fans guessing. I have a feeling we will finally get those moments under Oates and Sen.
