Women Supporting Women: Karen & Dinah (EastEnders)

International Women’s Day (IWD) is about recognizing and supporting women around the world. It’s about sharing and supporting the contributions women have made to our history, culture, and lifestyle. Emmerdale aired an episode featuring their female characters (created and organized by women). Other soaps, like EastEnders, ran their storylines as usual. However, the women in Albert Square (and beyond) still had their moment.

I loved that poignant scene between Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) and Dinah “Dina” Wilson (Anjela Lauren Smith). It took less than 5 minutes. Yet I felt the pain, history, and understanding between two women who’ve survived Mitch Baker (Roger Griffiths). Who better to take custody of Bailey Baker (Kara-Leah Fernandes) than Karen? She has the experience of supporting Keegan when Mitch has walked out on the family in the past. Karen will also give Bailey the support she needs when Dinah dies.

We always see the Slater women supporting and loving each other. It was refreshing to see the beginning of a supportive relationship between Karen and Dinah. I can’t wait to see how Karen’s relationship develops with Bailey.
