It was my first official day at home working with my students through Distance Learning. That means I needed some background noise/images to help me work through the day. When I am coding I usually watch mystery shows (Midsomer Murders) or crime shows (Silent Witness). Today I needed something a little lighter. I returned to an old favorite– Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency on Hulu.
The first episode starts with Todd Brotzman (Elijah Wood) waking up to his landlord beating his car for back rent. Then it moves to Todd’s job as a hotel bellhop. He has to go check the penthouse suite. That is where his odyssey begins after he views the after-effects of a horrendous murder. Todd then becomes unwillingly involved with Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett), a holistic detective who solves supernatural cases. Together they deal with time travel, time machines, and soul snatching.
The show is an easy binge-watch especially if you need to work with background noise. (Shout out to my ADHD friends!) This is the second version of the series. In 2010, Stephen Mangan (Dirk Gently) and Darren Boyd (Richard MacDuff) were the actors in the series. I’ve seen both versions and enjoyed the episodes. Unfortunately, there were only four episodes. So, now is your chance to enjoy the newest version of the series on Hulu.
