Now it’s time for EastEnders to focus on their LBGTQ ladies. Let’s start with Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) and Suki Kaur Panesar (Balvinder Sopal).

I’ve been waiting for this moment since the Pride episode two years ago. Two years we’ve waited for this moment. Now it’s time for EastEnders to focus on their LBGTQ ladies. Let’s start with Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) and Suki Kaur Panesar (Balvinder Sopal).
Since that first Pride episode the focus has been on Ben and Callum, the show’s second gay male couple. We even saw the show’s second gay male marriage a year after the episode. During this time we’ve only seen bits and pieces of the relationships between Ash & Iqra, Iqra & Mila, and Bernie & Mollie. Their screen time and storyline focus was minimal compared to Ben and Callum. Now that we will have a new EP this is the perfect time to focus on the ladies’ relationships.
The show has the perfect opportunity to explore the “coming out” experience of a woman, Suki, who’s been married for years and has adult children.

After that scene between Eve and Suki in the back of the police van, I want the EastEnder’s writers to put that same energy into telling their story. The show has the perfect opportunity to explore the “coming out” experience of a woman, Suki, who’s been married for years and has adult children. The even more compelling part of the story is Suki’s constant disapproval of her daughter Ash’s bisexuality.
Once the show starts focusing on Eve, Suki, Ash, and Bernie (when she returns), then they can work on balancing their storyline representation of their LBGTQ couples. If you want heterosexual fans to see these couples as part of everyday life in a community, then you need to focus on them equally.
