Finally EastEnders has given us the couple we’ve been asking for: Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) and Eve Unwin (Heather Peace). I have been asking for more representation of gay women relationships since 2020 after the Pride episode aired. They hid Bernie away for a year after using her in the episode. Then when she did start dating Mollie, her surrogacy for Rainie and Stuart ended her relationship. The show killed off Tina Carter. You can’t claim the message and diversity of Pride if you only represent one type of LGBTQ relationship.

Now, four months away from 2023, we are FINALLY seeing a Lesbian relationship blossom. Suki’s journey towards accepting her true sexuality is finally being explored.

I’m excited because instead of showing a young adult’s coming out journey, we are seeing the journey of an older woman with adult children and a husband she hates. We are also seeing Suki navigate her feelings while balancing how she thinks the community and her family will view her coming out.

Then there was that moment where the officer locked Suki and Eve in the police van to sort out their differences. A spark and a love affair was born.

This storyline will touch a lot of people and give a voice to “women of a certain age” who still struggle with their sexuality. You have Eve who came out as a young adult trying to love Suki who’s hid her true self away for so long. It started with Suki getting closer to Honey. Honey let her down gently after she kissed her. Of course, Suki buried her feelings and caused chaos with Honey.

Then there was Eve… Eve came into Walford as Slater (Stacey’s wife). She clashed with Suki because the Slaters clashed with Suki. Then there was that moment where the officer locked Suki and Eve in the police van to sort out their differences. A spark and a love affair was born.

All eyes are on Sukeve at this moment. Even though Eve tried to walk away, she still cares about Suki and has been there when she’s needed help.

Thank you EastEnders focusing on Walford’s LGBTQ ladies. We can’t wait to see how Sukeve’s love affair continues. Now you also need to focus on Bernie Taylor.
