Sorting Out Mick and Linda Carter (EastEnders)

I’ve been waiting for this side of Mick since I started watching #EastEnders again. Now he’s the tough man they kept referring to. This version of Mick would’ve handled Aidan Maguire much better.

I have been waiting to see the “tough” Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) since his wife Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) returned to Albert Square. His character hasn’t been the same since Linda returned. While she was gone and he was spending time with Whitney Dean (Shona McCarty), Mick was stronger and less… indecisive. Now, after Friday’s episode, I finally saw the tough “Geezer and Hard Man” fans kept talking about. He finally snapped! And he snapped some fingers in the process. All it took was the evil taunting by Stuart Highway (Ricky Champ) and a stretch in prison away from Linda. Now I’m hoping (and wishing) this is the beginning of a new transformation for the Carters. EastEnders Denise Fox looking at Phil Mitchell with suspicion after he says he's being nice.

I miss EastEnders Denise Fox (Dianne Parish)! I was thinking about the effort it takes to blend storylines in soaps as I was catching up on a week’s worth of Corrie and Emmerdale. The producers and writers only have about 30 minutes to tell characters’ stories and to keep us entertained. Coronation Street, Emmerdale, and Hollyoaks have managed to do that consistently. However, my favorite, EastEnders, is still trying to find that “30-Minute Magic”.

Why Stuart Highway Should Stay Redeemable: EastEnders

Before we get too deep into the summer, we need to talk about Stuart Highway (Ricky Champ) on EastEnders. He’s Mick Carter’s (Danny Dyer) joke-loving mate, and Callum “Halfway” Highway’s (Tony Clay) older brother. Stuart Highway has been the most interesting new character on the show (behind the Taylors, of course).

He’s the villain I love to see on soaps: calculating, sensitive, and misunderstood. That’s why EastEnders bosses need to keep Stuart redeemable if he’s going to stick around Walford. Continue reading “Why Stuart Highway Should Stay Redeemable: EastEnders”
